Local Intel
The Trail of Lights takes over Zilker Park nightly each December, and recent seasons have run December 10 through 23. Gates open at 7pm, close at 10pm. Premium and ZIP pass holders walk in an hour early, at 6pm, and the lots open at 5:30. None of that is the hard part. The roads are. Before a single gate opens, Barton Springs Road and Stratford Drive lose every lane, roughly 5:30pm to 11pm. The Barton Springs stretch from Azie Morton to Andrew Zilker can close even earlier, as early as 4pm. So the streets you'd reach for on a normal night are just gone.
Where cars actually drop off
You cannot drive up to the Zilker Tree or the Grand Entrance. Period. The one sanctioned place to let people out is 2107 Veterans Drive. From there you cross the Foot Bridge to Stratford, then bear left toward the tree. Knowing that single address before you leave the house is half the fight.
Parking and the route trap
Parking runs $15, pre-paid online, and that's the only way to get it. Nothing sells at the gate. It goes fast on the ticketed weekend nights and the final stretch before Christmas. Two lots: the Polo Field grass lot near the entrances, and the Austin High surface lot at 1715 W Cesar Chavez, which sits about a mile out. And here's what trips people up. If you've got a pass, the instruction is to follow the route in your confirmation email, not GPS. The closures break navigation, so your phone happily steers you into a barricade. Park in the neighborhoods around the park and you'll get towed.
When to come
Gate open, 7 to 8pm, is the wall of people. Anyone who does this every year knows the smarter window sits closer to 8:15 to 9:30, and it thins out again in the final half hour before close. The free weeknights move lighter than the ticketed weekends.
The Chauffeured Experience
Here's how we run a Trail of Lights night. You book us by the hour and we're with you start to finish, on call, going where you point us. No drop-and-vanish. The car and your chauffeur belong to you from pickup until your front door.
We time the inbound against that 5:30 to 8pm arrival crush. When the traffic calls for it, we drop onto the MoPac Express Lane down to Cesar Chavez. That's the variable-toll bypass, priced to keep cars moving while the free lanes pile up, and it feeds the approach the city actually points you toward: in on Cesar Chavez and MoPac, out on Lamar. We're not sitting on Barton Springs hoping. We already know it's shut.
At the park we use the sanctioned drop at 2107 Veterans Drive, walk you over to the Foot Bridge, then we go stage. You won't be poking at an app while a phantom car circles the block. When the kids have hit their hot-chocolate limit and you're done, you text us, and we're at the same spot you left from. Pickup turns into a scrum on the busy nights. A known driver in a known vehicle, parked exactly where you stepped out, is the entire point.
Traveling as a group? The Flagship Jetliner Sprinter seats up to 10, with climate control, premium audio, and Starlink Wi-Fi to keep everyone warm and settled on both ends of the walk. Couples and smaller families ride the 2025 Cadillac Escalade, up to 6. Complimentary water and ice in both. BYOB is welcome for guests 21 and up if you want something for the ride. On the tighter ticketed nights we can also work on buying a parking pass so we stage closer in. We handle that one case by case, no promises, but on a sold-out Saturday it changes the whole evening.

Why The Jetliner
Questions, answered
Where will you drop us off for the Trail of Lights?
At 2107 Veterans Drive. It's the only sanctioned car drop. From there it's a short walk across the Foot Bridge to Stratford Drive, then left toward the Zilker Tree. There's no drive-up to the Grand Entrance once the closures kick in, so this is where everyone gets dropped.
Do you just drop us off, or do you wait?
We stay. This is an hourly, as-directed booking with a minimum, so your chauffeur and vehicle are yours the whole night. We stage nearby while you walk the trail and we're back at the drop the moment you text.
How early should we leave for the park?
The 7 to 8pm gate-open window is the crush, and the roads around Zilker start closing as early as 4pm. We build your pickup around that and come in on Cesar Chavez. Want to skip the worst of it? Aim for that 8:15 to 9:30 stretch. It's calmer.
Which vehicle works best for a Trail of Lights night?
Family or group up to 10, take the Flagship Jetliner Sprinter. Climate control and Starlink Wi-Fi keep everyone warm on both ends of the walk. Up to 6, the 2025 Cadillac Escalade does the job. Complimentary water and ice in both.
Can you get us a parking pass so the car is closer?
On the busier ticketed nights, yes, we can work on buying a pre-paid pass so we stage nearer the entrance. Parking is online-only and it sells out, so we handle it case by case for your specific night. It's a premium option we arrange, not a guarantee.
How do we book?
Call 737-200-5252 or request a quote at thejetliner.com. Give us your night, your group size, and where you're starting from. We'll build the evening around the gate times and the closures.
Still weighing it? Text your dates to (737) 200-5252 and we will answer honestly.
